Southern Cross Tours & Expeditions Ltda. is a Rio de Janeiro based Travel Operator under German ownership, which specialises in nature bound and cultural travelling. We cater to the demanding traveller whose expectations sets the high standards of our work to always provide the best solutions for his travel plans.

Peter Rohmer has founded the company in 1993. His vast range of experiences and knowledge, gathered from living in several countries, particularly in Brazil for over 25 years, has strongly influenced his philosophy about how to travel best in this exuberant and fascinating country, called Brazil. Believing that natural and cultural highlights are certainly a must to be visited, he stresses the fact that it is the face to face contact at the hidden places, off the beaten tracks, that provides the unique sensation of an experience that one makes only few times in a life. This is truly the case if you talk about a country that seems to possess unlimited natural beauty by contrast. The Amazonian lowlands, the Atlantic Coastal Rainforests, the subtropical High Sierras of the south, or the Pantanal wetlands, are only some of the highlights the adventurous traveller doesn't stop dreaming of. Not to forget spontaneous encounters with multiracial cultures in the backcountry, joining in their traditional feasts, experiencing their exotic food and drinks and last but not least, the making of good friends, are other indispensable components of an unforgettable Brazilian voyage.

Southern Cross Tours & Expeditionen is a rather small travel operator with a staff of only three.

Together with Peter works Annette "Nette" Runge, 37, who studied languages and theater in Berlin where she worked as a Journalist. Nette lives for 10 years in Brazil . She takes care of the administration including programming and reservations.
Benjamin Hemer, 26, studies communication and design, actually doing his spezialization in Rio de Janeiro. Benni is responsible for our webdesign and communications.

Peter handles everything. You may find him even on expedition in the Amazonian Rainforest or on our horseback trails. When he is doing field work he acts as translator guide or travel coordinator. He says that is neccessary to grant a smooth service but some suspect strongly that he is enjoying it too much.

All four are fluent in English, German and Portuguese, Peter is also fluent in Spanish and Italian and has fair knowledge of French too.

On the other side of the ocean, precisely in Aberdeen, Scotland, we have Tristan Wolfe offering our tours as Southern Cross Tours & Expeditions, UK. short SCTE/UK. Tristan feels best when he is out in the field, that is, in the Amazon, or anywhere else in the wild. He is the right man to deal with ours or his English speaking groups. He also acts as expeditions coordinator for those groups.

At Southern Cross Tours & Expeditions, we respect nature and prove that it is possible to live in peace with nature while travelling through the pristine regions of the tropics. By including qualified local labour into our operations, even where this would not be necessary, we also help to improve social conditions in the areas we travel.
